Try putting an onion in the soil while its good after a while it will grow stems wait until they are long then pick the stems out and put them in the salad they will taste great just remember to throw away the onions.Try growing some sunflowers.

The little purple flowers on green stems sound like Grape Hyacinth. Leave them in the ground and they will disappear in a month and come back next spring. They are the first outdoor flowers to bloom in the spring. Lots of people actually plant them in the lawn. They flower all over the lawn and then disappear into the grass and you don’t see them again until next spring.
Just remember to make your beds labor free as much as possible. Use newspaper covered with mulch around them whenever possible so you won’t have to pull weeds.
Plant the mint in containers like large pots. If you plant it in the ground, it will spread rapidly and you will find it is harder to control than any weed. It will literally take over any area it is planted in.
For the rest, just follow the instructions on the packets and you should do well.

Herbs should be planted near to the kitchen. The mint needs to be contained – suggest potting it or it will invade! Lavender likes well drained soil and is a reasonable companion plant. I like to plant it near a bathroom window for the scent. Tomato needs full sun and a warm position. The big thing about the veggie patch is to prepare the soil well with lots of organic mulch, and the siting needs to have full sun for most of the day. Good veggies come from good soil. With the rose, prune it back heavily after summer and it will pay you back with blooms in spring. I find the best enjoyment out of propagating seeds from the existing plants, or dividing the plants to get more. Another consideration is to get in touch with the seasons of your garden and plant at the right time of year. Happy green thumbs!
