landscaping idea to stop hit & run drivers from destroying my driveway & front yard ?
I live οn a corner lot іn a residential neighborhood аnd fοr thе 3rd time ( second time іn 30 days) a hit аnd rυn driver hаѕ missed thе turn took out thе brick retainer wall οn both sides οf mу driveway, missed mу vehicle bу inches. Each time thе dаmаgе costs more аnd more tο fix. Anу іdеаѕ hοw tο еіthеr change thе retainer wall аnd/οr add ѕοmе type barriers thаt wіll ѕlοw thе cars down. Mу concern іѕ one day a child іѕ going tο gеt kіllеd bу thеѕе reckless people.
I hаνе called police еνеrу time bυt ѕіnсе drivers аrе already gone,thеу јυѕt mаkе a report аnd leave.

The best thing to do is take a licence plate number and call the police right away before you fix the damage. You should not have to deal with that.
In the grass before your driveway, say along the road in your grass, you could place large rocks. Maybe some 20 lb rocks or so and space them out along the edge of your lawn. It can be a hassle to mow around but drivers wont want to run one of those over!
First i would contact your local police and ask them to patrol the corner due to speeders and people damaging your private property. I would make a report every time this happens. If they need to they might need to call in the department of streets to see if something needs to be changed on the corner.
2. Maybe large Huge rocks to replace the wall. if people run over a big rock it will damage the underside of their cars.
Put a border wall around your house and hires fuckïng Minuteman for protect your property just as they do in the US-Mexico border
since a brick wall is not doing the trick. contact your local township road dept and see if you can get them to install a guard rail. explain the problem and the safety issues.planting evergreen trees might help.at least they cant say we didn’t see them!
Whatever you put in will have to withstand a car’s impact. It will take the same hit as the retaining wall. You have probably seen metal pipes around electrical panels or areas around drive up windows in the fast food shops. Those can be made from old well casing – buried in the ground in concrete and filled with concrete. Also know as barrier posts. Wouldn’t you love to get them on surveillance camera? But that would be high end stuff and the head lights probably would prevent you from getting a license number (assuming this is drunks at night).
I have seen small boulders that literally weigh about a ton used in situations like yours. Drivers will not hit them without major damage. I think rocks are the right idea and the bigger the better.
I think large rocks is a good idea. You can make them part of your landscaping, but if people are coming this close to your car when they miss the corner, it might not help. Next time they might end up right in your driveway and hit your car really bad. Another thought, though: who’s paying for this damage? You, or your insurance company? There was a house in a place I used to live that was on a bad bend in the road, and people kept driving into this house’s carport and knocking it down. The last time, it fell on a brand new luxury car parked in the carport and the damage was extensive. The insurance company finally paid for a barrier to be installed, figuring that was better than paying for the carport and cars over and over.
You might also approach your town and see if they’ll put up a barrier or a speed bump.
How about putting some nice big planks with spikes pointing upwards in your yard? That way, they won’t get far……and maybe the lazy police can get off their butts and do something.
We have this exact same problem on our block, and two of our neighbors solved the problem with two very different ideas.
Neighbor #1 bought one of those huge, huge tractor tires that sit about 3 feet high and 4 feet across. He filled the darn thing 2/3s full with gravel, piled some potting soil on top of that, and then planting vining plants. I can’t believe how well that tire worked!
Neighbor #2 bought two of those high granite landscape rocks, and placed them in a few feet in front of her retaining wall. The first time a hit & run driver hit it, half the neighborhood ran outside on account of the noise, and got the license plate numbers. He he he.
A physical barrier that stops cars dead in their tracks is the best solution. If both of these sound a little too junky, installing a bollard is the next best solution. Bollards are about 3 feet high, are cemented into the ground, and will absolutely prevent those cars from tearing down your retaining wall.
Worth mentioning, is that what I did in my neighborhood, was get a stop sign installed at the intersection. You might see if your highway crew would do the same.
put dounut in your yard and the cops will sit there all the time and catch them
