Fabulous item for the beach, camping, picnic or any activity. Especially great for kid use. It is water and stain resisitant as well as sand and grass repellant. Also, it is machine washable. It is quite large and fit a family of four comfortably, with extra space for a baby to explore safely. We went camping with our 9 month old and it rained. I used this to cover his stroller and bouncer and they remained dry while everything else got soaked. I would say it is water proof instead of water resistant. I recommend this to any parent. The only improvement I would suggest is weights on the corners. I understand that the smaller size has that feature.

I purchased this neat sheet to take to St. John VI. I had heard from others that it was a must to have on the beach. I have to say it was great! It did not absorb the water or get full of sand at all. It also folded up compact and fit right in our beach bag. Great purchase!

While you already know this item comes with some weights sewn into the hem and how wonderful it is for picnics, lying on the beach, to put under highchairs, for babies to crawl on, I found two other uses:
1) When we go to dog shows, dogs often need to be placed in x-pens but not everyone feels the surface they are putting the pen on, is clean and if on asphault, it can be too hot. So putting this down first can be an option. It can be hosed off and/or washed or thrown away.
2) This item makes a fantastic whelping box bedding. I ducted-taped it down to a melamine whelping box. It kept puppies warmer but on an easy to disinfect surface (unlike an unfinished wood box). It also gives newborns “purchase”, while nursing. I used a set of 4, for a litter of large-breed puppies, over 8 weeks. I took it up twice per day and washed it. The hems & surface did get a bit frayed after 8 weeks of daily washing. But I’d use it again in a heart-beat.

This is a great cover for picnics, putting your baby down on the ground with lots of room to wiggle around, covering a piece of furniture that you don’t want a pet to ruin… The uses are endless. A perfect gift item.
